OCEANFLOORS

I had the pleasure of interviewing Sam Sklaney also known as Oceanfloors. Here is what he had to say about himself and his music.

So Sam what is the origin of the name Oceanfloors?

I always found the ocean to be fascinating when I was growing up, and I lived 2 blocks from the beach. I was always scared of the water and hated going swimming because of how mysterious the ocean was and what could be right below your feet while you're swimming. I guess Oceanfloors is kind of a face your fears type thing that I came up with. Before "Oceanfloors" it was Emerald Eyes, and before that "Lilly Pad".

That is a great message behind the name because it will get fans to face their fears. What genre of music do you consider your work to be?

I like to call it electronic rock because I don't like limiting myself to a genre, but it's really influenced the most heavily by metal.

I like how you don’t want to limit yourself to a specific genre. It gives you the chance to expand what you want to do with your music. Who do you consider to be your biggest influences?

There are a huge amount of great albums out now a days to indulge in, some of the ones that I grew up with are Underoath, Saosin, Circa, Coheed, Thursday, Bring Me The Horizon, Converge, Skyeatairplane more recently, and pretty much anything that's classical, movie scores are mostly amazing, great key changes.

What inspired you to make music?

I've always loved music, since my uncle first played Motley Crue and a bunch of 80s music all the time when I was in diapers. My best friend John wanted to start a cover band and I wanted to play the drums. My mom was the most supportive person of all time, we were really poor at the time, but somehow she scraped together enough money to get me drum lessons and bought me a Premier Cabria in all red with these crazy Sabian cymbals that costed more than her car at the time. I'll never forget that. It still drives me to this day to create music because there's no way in hell I'm letting what she did for me back then, despite our situation, go to waste.

Where have you performed?

I've preformed at so many no name firehalls and backyards that there's too many to count. Memorable ones were Point Pleasant Highschool, they set up this crazy stage with cameras and screens behind my live band so it made us look like we were so much cooler and more important than we are. Another memorable one was in Ocean City, Maryland, last week. I saw this guy playing acoustic guitar for everyone on vacation on the beach at this little beach bar and he wasn't getting much applause, it didn't seem like anyone was even paying attention. I felt really crappy because he was tearing that guitar up, I think his fingers were actually on fire at one point. I ran up and started cheering him on and he took a break, asked me what kind of music I play, and asked if I know any acoustic songs or could sing, I said yeah. I played "Everyway" by Anthony Green, and it was an honor for him to let me do it. If you're reading this Troy, thanks again buddy.

Small venues are always great for a connection with the crowd. It is always great to have strong support behind you from friends and family. What do you consider the main themes or topics for most of your songs?

I mostly write about battling my own brain and the stuff it decides to do, anxiety, people in my life, and the end of the world or post apocalyptic stuff. I'm absolutely obsessed with the game Fallout and the whole story line behind it. If you haven't played, you should go do so now. I even got a Fallout tattoo, god I love Fallout.

Do you think these topics will change over time?

I think that as people get older their views on the world and what they want to say to other people changes naturally. I'm more aware of what's going on in the world socially and politically but I don't ever want my music to become a vessel for something I read on an internet blog about whatever happened where and why we should be mad at the people there or in power or blah blah blah a girl hurt me or the music industry is unfair boo hoo. My opinion on politics or life doesn't matter. What you read on CNN or FOX doesn't matter. What your idol is screaming about doesn't matter. Everyone has their own agenda dealing with whatever they write be it music or news or blogs or articles, take most of the things you hear about on the news for what they are: some guy who doesn't matters skewed opinion that definitely has another side to it.

How would you briefly describe the music-making process?

Coffee, redbull, a decent computer and a crappy microphone. I write most everything on a computer, sometimes I'll write on an acoustic guitar if there isn't anything else around. I try to make music come from me naturally. Don't ever write for someone else or an audience if you're reading this. I'm not saying "don't be a sell out" either, because calling someone a "sell out" is a stupid thing to do. If you ever become jaded as a musician and hear a simple song and say "oh that's stupid, I could have wrote that." then go DO IT. Don't try to make something overly complex to impress you musician buddies. Don't try to overly simplify things to get everyone who isn't a musician to like and understand it. Do what comes to you based on what you like and enjoy about music, I promise you'll have a better time doing so.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band/artist?

I think one of the biggest challenges now a days is how high the bar is set for everyone. There is a whole galaxy of good, great, and amazing bands out there. It's like every other band I hear or see just has this crazy talent burning in them. So many people have this incredible voice, or guitar skills, production, graphics. It makes it really discouraging I'm sure for the kids starting out today, but stick with it guys, it's not as overwhelming as you think. My personal biggest challenge has been writing. I get writers block a LOT.

Writers block is hard to overcome sometimes especially if you worry about it. Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how did you do it?

Yes and no. There are good days and bad ones. I think there's an advantage to not really knowing or worrying about how songs work sometimes even if they just do. Over analyzing music can be incendiary and make it disingenuous when you do write it if you're thinking too hard about it. As Palpatine said sometimes you just have to let the hate flow through you.

Okay so what is your ultimate direction for your music?

Writing as much music as I can before I end up in the ground getting gnawed at by a cockroach. Getting a good message to people that makes their lives happier or easier or more entertaining. I owe the music industry a lot in that regard. The albums I've heard in my life have done a lot of things for me.

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?

You can download my full free EP at www.facebook.com/oceanfloors and clicking on "play". I have another new track on there named "Ceres" that you can download there, and find on Youtube. I have some covers on Youtube and experimental tracks on Soundcloud too.

That is awesome that fans can download your full EP free. Is there anyone you would like to acknowledge for offering support?

I'd love to say thank you to my mom, Michelle Toborowsky. To everyone else that always told me that music is impossible to become successful at or that I need a real job I'd like you all to die in a fire for putting that in a 13 year olds head. I'd like to thank the huge support online and at shows from anyone who's digging my music, you guys have been absolutely awesome and I love every single one of you.

That is amazing you have such a strong support system behind you with your mom and friends. It means you can always go far no matter what life throws at you. Do you have any last words before I go?

Thanks for this interview, it was a lot of fun for sure. I hope everyone reading this has a great day.

Thank you again Sam for the chance to interview you about your music. Remember to check out Oceanfloors at www.facebook.com/oceanfloors. We will be back soon with new interviews as well keep an eye                                                                                out.

Interview with Caramela Carmela

How did you guys come to be in the band Caramela Carmela?

-We were all friends first and then just started making music together. We combine all the types of music we love and that's how we get our unique sound.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

-Many great musicians of all types of genres. such as Attack Attack, Devil Wears Prada, Skrillex, Breathe Carolina and many more.

What inspires you to play and write music?

-Honestly, all sorts of things. Partying, relationships, Sci-fi fantasy. We like to conjure up an idea and atmosphere of a song before we actually start writing it.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

-Porter Robinson, Woe is Me, Sleeping With Sirens, A Day to Remember

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

-As a band, we have a lot of people in our lives that have helped us so much just because they believe in the music we make. Nate Rich and Rich Boys Ink, Chris Roe with The Other Guys Productions, Soda Jerk, and every single one of our fans plays a huge role in keeping us alive and believing in us.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

-The Beatles, Motley Crew, Stevie Wonder and Mike Tyson (he's security haha)

What are you views on self harming?

-Don't do it! There's too much to live for.

What are some of the words you live by?

-Live, love, learn

Interview with Sovereign Soldiers

So we all know the three of you from being in the band Amely, what made you

guys decided to break up as Amely and start Sovereign Soldiers?

We felt like Amely had reached the end of it's life just a couple of months ago.

The direction that we wanted to go wasn't exactly agreed upon by everyone and it

wasn't exactly allowed either. Amely was always meant to be an alternative band

but due to some things beyond our control was always pushed into the pop punk

genre. It was a fun journey and some of the best times of my life. I'll never

forget it

Is or will there be any hard feelings toward Brandon and what he is doing

musically?

There are absolutely no hard feelings towards Brandon. We actually strongly

encourage people to check out the songs he has been writing, they are great!

Why the name Sovereign Soldiers?

Sovereign Soldiers is a name that came about when the three of us were

discussing our mindset towards this new project. We wanted to be in control of

every aspect of the band and wanted to have the freedom to be able to do what we

please, and launch music in an exciting new way. We are the soldiers fighting

for liberation from the ideals and the norm. Anyone who would like to join us in

that mission can also become a soldier.

What can we expect the music to sound like compared to Amely?

The music shouldn't really be compared to Amely. Sure, I am singing the music,

but the singing style and approach is very different from Amely. We are aiming

to create a true alternative rock band.

How do you think the fans will react to the change in music?

I don't see it as a change. This is a new band entirely.

Do you think you will lose a lot of fans because of the change in music?

Fans of Amely can continue to enjoy Amely and may not join this new journey with

the soldiers, but thats okay because the bands are separate entities.

What are your guys favorite things about the Sovereign Soldiers music and are

you happy with the change in sound?

We are really excited about the fact that with Sovereign Soldiers we have the

chance to start from scratch and build a band from the ground up. The music we

are playing is the same kind of music that we actually listen to. We aren't

young kids anymore and we aren't ignorant about the changes in the music

industry. We just want to play the type of music that we enjoy listening to and

inspire people to do the same.

What are you views on self harming and what advice would you give to fans who

self harm?

I have had many people approach me in the past about self harming and I have sat

a lot of people down to have talks with them. I was never able to relate to them

on an emotional level because I had never experienced the things that they were

going through but many of them turned to me for advice and told me that my music

helped them through dark times and inspired them to believe in themselves. The

fact that music can do that for people is amazing and I hope to continue to do

that with any music that I create.

Interview with This Time Next Year

How did you come up with the band name This Time Next year?

The name came from the The Movielife record called This Time Next Year

How did you guys come to be in the band This Time Next year?

Pete, Denis and myself have always made music together. We used to be in a hardcore band called The Starting Point and that's how This Time Next Year spawned. We wrote a song that didn't quite match up to our current band so we started something new.

What can people expect from you during a live show?

A fun, energetic set. When we play we like to have fun and we hope people notice that and have a good time with us.

Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Hopefully we will have more records and a lot more touring under our belts!

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

We just played the Electric Factory on the Pop Punks Not Dead Tour. It was sold out at 2,400 people. It's the biggest show TTNY has played to date.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

New Found Glory, Blink 182, Green Day, AFI are all huge influences.

What can we expect from This time next year for the rest of 2011 and early 2012?

We have a lot of touring coming up for the rest of 2011 and even more in 2012. We're headed back to the UK/EU with Four Year Strong and A Loss For Words and couldn't be more excited to tour with both of those bands again.

What are some last words from the band?

DROP OUT OF LIFE

Interview with Greg Diamond from The Air I Breathe

We had a chance to talk to Greg Diamond from The Air I Breathe and here is what he had to say:

How did you guys come up with the name The Air I Breathe as a band name?

An ex member from way back when compared his love for music to the air that he breathes, therefore coming up with the name "The Air I Breathe".

How did you guys come to be in the band The Air I Breathe?

All of us are from the same general area, and the band began with completely different members minus Greg.  As time went on and a member would leave to continue on a different path, we'd bring in someone who was actually serious about the band and who brought up the level of overall talent.

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

Either the White Rabbit in Texas or Ace of Spades in California.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

We all have very different influences, we don't normally listen to metal in our spare time, usually stick to pop or rap.

What inspires you to play and write music?

The overall enjoyment we get out of creating it.  Being able to get together and come up with the music that we enjoy hearing/playing and having other people love it as well.

What was the first job you had and do you like it?

I was a service clerk at our local supermarket, it fucking sucked haha.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Transit, Odd Future, Mayday Parade, Stray From The Path.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

Definitely my Mom, she raised me by herself and still to this day never expects anything in return.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Odd Future, Yellowcard and us haha,

What are your views on bullying?

Bullying is an extremely immature thing that mostly happens over the internet nowadays.  Funny part about that is how most of these online bullies are too big of cowards to ever actually make fun of someone to their face.

What are your views in self harming?

It's a very overlooked problem caused by stupid trends that are breaking out every week in today's current "scene".  We all know what self harming can lead too, and if you find a loved one headed in that direction, they need to be confronted and helped right away.

Interview with The Greater The Risk

We had the chance to chat with Blake Gillespie from The Greater The Risk and here is what he had to say.

How did you come up with the band name The Greater The Risk?

The name is very meaningful for all of us. 4 out of 5 of us have college degrees but have chosen to make music our life for the unforeseen future. We’re taking a risk at putting off real life to do something that we really want to do and truly makes us happy. We felt like a name that means something will mean something to others as well.

How did you guys come to be in the band The Greater the Risk?

This the brainchild of our lead guitarist Ashley Drewes. She was sitting on a bunch of songs, didn’t know what she wanted to do, or what she wanted to do with the songs. She chose to start making this her life and rounded up four others to help her get started. Through several lineup changes and about a year of work to get off the ground, TGTR is ready to share their passion for music with anyone who will lend an ear. Though we’re vastly different, (just come out and meet us at a show and you’ll see what I mean) we have a common vision and love for playing together.

How would describe your music?

It’s very relatable. It’s very passionate. Our new EP speaks to those qualities. It talks a lot about the miscommunication between friends and loved ones and what happens in life when people stop talking and start listening. Everyone can relate to that issue, because everyone has been wrong at some point. As far as sound goes, it is guitar-driven, solid pop/rock music, no frills, bells or whistles. Well, there are bells and whistles on a few tracks…

What has been your guys’ biggest musical influence thus far?

We all have vastly different musical tastes and influences. Some of us were born and raised listening to their parents’ records, others were classically trained or played marching band in high school. Though we don’t share tastes in very similar bands, our love for music is definitely present. Some bands that influence our sound however, would have to Jimmy Eat World and Anberlin, not just for their incredible music but also their outstanding work ethic.

What inspires you to play and write music?

Funny enough, I think our biggest inspiration is to not grow up! Playing music allows you to put off real life, which we are all currently doing. Since most of us have a higher education degree, it could be easy to fall into the pitfalls of doing what you have to do instead of doing what you want to do. We want to be doing this, and that is our inspiration.

Who is your hero?

If you ask each of us, we would probably all give different answers. Family is important to all of us though. They are the ones that encourage us to do what we want. I can honestly say all five members’ family members fully support what we are doing, which is so awesome. To have such a close-knit group also supported by bigger close-knit groups is such a blessing.

What was the first job you had and did you enjoy it?

My (Blake-Guitar/Vocals) first job was flower delivery driver for a florist during high school. It was actually a pretty sweet gig. Driving a company P.T. Cruiser around and delivering happiness to people is really rewarding. On the other side of it, delivering to funeral homes all the time can be depressing too. Wow, this interview really is taking a dive if we’re talking about funeral homes! Haha.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

2011 was a big year in music for us. We had so many records come out that we were looking forward to, and bands that have been influential to us especially. Jack’s Mannequin, The Dangerous Summer, and Jimmy Eat World all released albums this year, and we have been eating them up ever since. Jimmy Eat World has probably been our biggest influence, as everyone in our band can agree on listening to them at any point in time. That’s tough considering some of us enjoy One Republic and some of us enjoy Gorillaz.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My dad is the most important person in my life. He went both routes in life. He worked in a job that paid well but offered him no happiness. He works for himself now, and he couldn’t be happier. He took a risk starting his own business, and it’s a success. I’m very proud of him for doing something that he wanted to do, and watched him succeed. Going to work everyday and getting paid to do what you want to do has to be the greatest feeling there is.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

My dream tour would have an array of bands during different time periods. Stay with me on this one…Saves The Day circa 2001, Goo Goo Dolls circa 1998, Fleetwood Mac circa 1977, and one of my favorite bands that sadly just called it quits, Augustana. If you did not have the chance to see them live, you missed OUT!

What are your views on bullying?

I actually had the privilege to never be bullied in school, nor did I do any bullying. (Not that I could, I’m 145 lbs soaking wet now!). Of course I’m against it though. Picking on someone for being themselves is like getting upset at the sky for being blue, it just doesn’t make any sense. I know it’s cliché, but I think people who bully others are unhappy with themselves. Truly, I do.

What advice would you give fans that are being bullied?

Don’t let it get down on you. And don’t let it effect you from being yourself. The most important possession you have is your individuality, and no one can take that from you. My sister got "bullied," well more like picked on, by my older brother and I as a toddler growing up. The best thing she did to avoid getting picked on was to ignore it. As soon as we saw that what we were doing to her didn’t bother her, we got bored and moved on. That’s my number one advice.

Interview with David Volgman-Stevens

from For All Those Sleeping

We had the chance to talk to David from For All Those Sleeping and here is what he had to say.

How did all of you come to be in For All Those Sleeping?
Mike, Jerad, Ethan and I all went to High School together so when we graduated, none of us wanted to go to college so we started the band instead. As lame as it sounds, London added me on Myspace about a year later, we started talking and he joined shortly after.

What is your favorite song from Cross Your Fingers?
I'm sure we all have different opinions on this one but I love to play Favorite Liar and I'm Not Dead Yet the most live because kids go crazy for those songs but I have a soft spot for If I Wanted Your Two Cents I'd Rob You and The Midnight Society.

What has been the best show you have played so far and the biggest show you have played thus far?
That's a tough one, we've played so many amazing shows over the past year of touring, but I think the most memorable one was when we played Tokyo, Japan. It was such a surreal experience, definitely one of my favorite! I think the biggest show we've played would either be this festival we played in July in Dallas- there were thousands of people there- or a local festival we played before we got signed in Minnesota. Tough call.

What has been your biggest musical influence thus far?
For me, growing up, Blink 182 and AFI really got me into writing my own music so I owe them a lot.

What was the first job you had and did you enjoy it?
I was the only paper boy without a bike, it sucked haha.

What inspires you all to write music?
Life and all of it's situations. We've been through a lot in this past year so I'm really excited to write this next record.

Who is your hero?
Troy Aikman (ex quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys). He was always my role model growing up.

What band would be a part of your dream tour?
Blink 182

What are some of the bands you all grew up on and some of the bands you are listening to right now?
Sorry for the recurring Blink 182 but definitely them, Darkest Hour, Alkaline Trio, The Used, Underoath, and As I Lay Dying were some of them growing up. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Country music, I love it. Also, I've been listening to Falling In Reverse lately, we just got off tour with them and their music is so fucking catchy haha.

What are you views on Bullying?
Not down with it. If you are being bullied, stick up for yourself and don't change who you are.

Interview with Voted Most Random

We had the chance to chat with Ian Reibeisen and Joe Mauti from Voted Most Random.

Why voted most random for a band name?

Our drummer, Sal, was “voted most random” in high school. That is where the name comes from.

How did you guys come to be in the band voted most random?

We all met in different ways at different times. The short answer is we all met at school and had a common interest of being in a band. What started out as a hobby, quickly turned into something we treat as our job.

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

Favorite show is different for all of us. Ian – our CD release at The Space in Hamden, CT because it was our first music release so it was very special. Joe – Bamboozle because it is such a well known festival, and we played to a bunch of new people in a new state for us.

Favorite venue – The Space in Hamden because it is our hometown venue. That is where we got our start and they are always willing to help out.

What advice would you give to kids wanting to start a band?

Write music that you enjoy, not what you think people will buy. Take promoting seriously, it is something that many bands do not do well, but it’s the best way to get new fans out to shows. Don’t take for granted anyone you meet, every contact you make can be extremely important. Treat other bands with respect, just how you feel you should be treated.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

We all have our own individual musical influences, but as a band, the person who has helped us out the most is Joe Ragosta from Patent Pending. He is always willing to give us advice on how the music industry works.

What inspires you to play and write music?

Our lives. A majority of the music we write is based around real life things we experience.

Who is your hero?

Superman.

What was the first job you had?

Filling in for Superman. (told you we were random)

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade, Patent Pending, Simple Plan, blink-182, We the Kings. Stuff like that.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

Our families are all very important to us, as well as our friends and each other.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

Us, We the Kings, The Rocket Summer, blink-182, Patent Pending

What are you views on groupies?

It’s hard to say because we don’t see any of our fans as “groupies.” We see them as our friends.

What are your views on bullying?

NO. Treat everyone with the respect you want to be shown yourself. Don’t bully anyone for how they act, or what they believe.

Interview with Rick Odria from MY ELECTRIC HEART

How did the guys come to be in the live band for My Electric Heart?

I happened to be perusing eHarmony.com one sunny Sunday afternoon and came across a beautiful, round, brown faced gentleman. I immediately told myself I must have Rob Casio in my life. Then I noticed that he dabbled in the drums, so I asked if he might want to jam sometime. I met Brett(guitar) when he answered a casual encounter ad I posted on Craigslist.

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

One of my favorite shows we've played was a recent vitamin water event called Uncapped Live in Miami. The venue was a really dope, artsy club downtown Miami and the crowd was absolutely insane. Plus it was Rob's birthday, so things definitely got out of hand.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

One of the biggest musical influences for me has always been The Postal Service. I think that's kind of apparent in a few of my songs. More recently, I've been extremely inspired by Miss Ellie Goulding and her music. I'm really into what she's doing and have definitely been influenced by her in my newer recordings.

What inspires you to play and write music?

Mostly the fact that it's the most comfortable outlet I have at my disposal. Life throws so much at you; highs, lows, and everything in between. Music is the only way I know how to purge my feelings and sentiments about everything this world has to offer. As far as playing is concerned, if I ever need an escape or just need some time to myself, I plug my headphones in and play my keyboard. To me, the piano is the most soothing thing in the world. It calms me down.

What was the first job you had and did you like it?

Oh man. I think my first job was at a Chinese restaurant/buffet when I was 16. And I hated it SO much. No one spoke English, so every time they told me to do something, I would have to ask them to repeat themselves 23 times. The only good part was I got to take home as much food as I wanted every day. But that was definitely a rough time in my life.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Recently I've been listening to such a variety of artists. Let's see. Lots of Ellie Goulding, Sleeping With Sirens, new New Found Glory and Mayday Parade albums, Nero, Two Door Cinema Club, new Jason Derulo tracks, Tyler Carter's solo stuff, Set Your Goals, and the new Lights album. Oh and the new Breathe Carolina album. Make sure you pick that up, those are my dudes!

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My mom is and always will be the most important person in my life. She raised me on her own since I was two, and I respect and love her so much for that, and am thankful every day for everything she's done for me. An extremely close 2nd goes to my girlfriend Krysti, she's basically my other(better) half and truly means the world to me. I consider myself to be one very, very lucky guy.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

If it were to be any genre, I'd say New Found Glory, The Starting Line, The Postal Service, Ellie Goulding, and Cher(obviously).

What are you views on groupies?

I never fully understood the actual meaning of groupies, but I guess I grasp the general concept. I don't know, I think as a fan, as someone who respects what an artist does or who an artist is, there should be boundaries and lines that shouldn't be crossed. I think groupies give a bad name to genuine fans and supporters, because more than likely they're not interested in what an artist does, just what goes along with being around them.

What are your views on self harming and what advice would you give fans that self harm?

Although I'm sure there are numerous reasons someone might have to think of harming themselves, there's just no reason(in my mind) to turn to that. There are always people in your life that are willing to listen to any problems or issues you have. Parents, teachers, counselors, friends, anyone. Try talking it out with someone, you'd be surprised how much talking about something out loud can help. And if you don't want share with anyone, try expressing it through a different outlet, like music, drawing, painting, writing, poetry. Interview with Boom Boom Crash

How did you come up with the name Boom Boom Crash?

John - One night driving back from the studio I was listening to music and was mouthing the drum parts and it hit me "Boom Boom Crash" after calling a friend of mine (Matt Rhoades from Young London) to get his opinion I brought it to Jay and from there we agreed on it.

Jay -After a few ideas, and not really sure what to name this project, John randomly had a lightbulb go off in his head and 'Boom Boom Crash' was the result!

How did you guys come to be in the band Boom Boom Crash?

John - Jay and I had been playing music for quite sometime together trying to get something really going. After awhile I started recording and working with Matt Rhoades. That was put on the back-burner once me and Jay joined with "The Jealous Sea". Now months later from when we started we decided to start to do something with the music we have created.

Jay -Me and John have constantly been trying to make something work out musically, and BBC is hopefully it.

How would describe your music?

John - Fun, energy filled.

Jay -Each song on the upcoming EP, has a different vibe to it. In a nutshell, they are catchy pop, 'electrogasms', that will hopefully make you move!

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

John - My biggest musical influence so far is defiantly a mix between "These Kids Wear Crowns", "The Cab" and "Young London"

Jay - These Kids Wear Crowns, if you haven't heard of them, listen! They are based in Canada. They infuse pop and with some rock in the best way possible!

What inspires you to play and write music?

John - Playing and writing music honestly started out as more of a hobby. When I started to see people enjoyed the music I created I went on to pursue it as a career.

Jay - Music moves people. Whether it be physically or emotionally, I just like being part of it.

Who is your hero?

John - My hero will forever be my grandfather, he became a huge father figure in my life after my father passed when I was a kid.

Jay - Catwoman. She's hawt.

What was the first job you had and did you enjoy it?

John - My first job I have really had and held was at American Eagle, It was like any other retail job though I suppose. It had its ups and downs, for the most part I'd say I enjoyed it.

Jay - Stop and Shop. Fuck no! I liked my co-workers but I can say that job turned me off from others jobs for a good while.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

John - What I find myself listening to the most lately is "Lydia", "The Cabs" latest album or "Go Radio"

Jay - We Are The In Crowd just released a CD! Let's Get It, and Sparks The Rescue's new CD has been constantly been a goto cd in my car for a while now.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

John - The most important person in my life right now is my mother, she has put up with my my entire life and I don't know how she does it.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

John -  My dream tour would most certainly include "Go radio", "Young London", "The Cab". I could honestly go on for hours of who I'd love to tour with.

Jay - All Time Low, These Kids Wear Crowns, and Ke$ha. Pop/rock goodness all in one!

What are your views on bullying?

John - I personally don't approve of bullying, but I feel everyone goes through a stage or moments in there lives where they are bullied and they are the person being a bully.

Jay - I think people should mind their own at all times, period.

What advice would you give fans that are being bullied?

John - If its strongly affecting you, talk to someone about it. Don't let it build up to the point you take it out on someone who does not deserve it.

Jay - Don't let them get to you, you are who you are, and what you like is what makes you happy. Just keep being you, and to have confidence in yourself and in your future and then you'll realize they aren't worth your time.

Interview with 51 Shortfalls

How did you guys come to be in the band 51 Shortfalls?

Mostly how we came to be was each of us being the right place at the right time. It took about a month of jamming around separately in an old brick building in a part of Boston called Charlestown. The group became official when we decided on the name and moved to an attic rehearsal space in Malden, MA (which is our current city)

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

We all have different favorites for different reasons. There is a venue in my head I’m in every time we play, at the biggest or smallest show. It bears a close resemblance to 1986 Wembly Stadium: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7xmH-Amt2k  Closest 51 Shortfalls has come so far has been at the Salem Haunted Happenings concert on Halloween night last year.

What advice would you give to kids wanting to start a band?

Bands are built with like minded musicians on the same skill level, its yourself you can control so start there and the band will follow. Whether you’re doing music out of love, and don’t care if you ever “make it”, or if it’s your soul purpose there are some building blocks to being a good musician that everyone should know. I do it out of love BTW…
First, make sure it’s a lifelong passion that you can’t live without… that’s first.
Next- Spend around 10+ hours practicing a week. Practice anything at all, it will all carry over into being a better musician, auto-tune is for singers with a shelf life, if you’re a singer and want to sing the national anthem at the super bowl then get those pipes up to snuff.
The only way is practice, the more of it the better and be obsessive that’s how all the greats did it. If you want to stay right where you are then only keep doing what you have been doing, that’s where you will stay.
Last- Be prepared to sacrifice, all your money, and time with your family and friends.
Also Challenge yourself every day to become a better version of yourself, and believe you can be.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

Rebecca Black, Milli Vanilli, and Brittany Spears… J/K
I think it’s our 51SF Family and friends more than any three or four bands could be. It’s the people who we meet in our daily lives that give more than they have, and those who stand up in the face of injustice or shout their beliefs for the world to hear. Bands who shaped us since we were all children are: The Beatles, Foo Fighters, and Queen

What inspires you to play and write music?

This crazy world we live in… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJYhPrbtqug lulz.  J/K  Well that and…
I’m sure you hear this a lot interviewing musicians but it’s like the music has to come out.
Its not always full bore but in some way or another it has to because its like it comes under pressure and could burst. I think it’s like a river of emotion inside, sometimes it’s a raging rapid along a windswept canyon and other times it’s a tranquil mountain stream next to a blooming hillside meadow. So it’s almost as basic as an instinct to sort of. Like when you whistle at a pretty girl or burst out cheering for your favorite team, or cry at the end of Harry Potter…

Who is your hero?

Kids, Moms and Dads, Jesus, Lennon, Gandhi, Tesla, and anyone- who strives for something better in “The Age of Empty Hearts” which is why we named our upcoming album for them.

What was the first job you had?

Not sure about the other guys but mine was a paperboy haha. I became a bit of a street musician a few years after that which has been like a second job to this day. You can still catch me playing cover songs and 51 Shortfalls songs on the streets of major cities from time to time.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Before we went on stage at our last show we were getting amped up to some old KSE. Last thing I listened to was the bouncing souls on Pandora which brought a ton of kule punk rock tunes my way.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

I don’t think any of us could pick just one. All of our families, fans and friends have been so amazing to us. We feel very lucky.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

Well... In a dream tour it would be like a festival similar to Woodstock that goes region to region. I think Elvis, Billy Idol, Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, The Stones, The Doors, U2, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Hendrix, Hall and Oats, ZZ Top, Black Crows, Jimmy Eat World, Brand New, Crime in Stereo, Hot Water Music… and many more. A living band tour: Foo Fighters, Green Day, 51 Shortfalls, Florence and the Machines, The Muse, MGMT, Frou Frou and some more lol

What are you views on groupies?

We could always use help moving our gear in and out at clubs. Haha J/K Seriously though I think that its everyone’s personal freedom and choice to do with themselves whatever they feel is right for them, as long as they don’t hurt anyone in the process.

What are your views on Bullying?

Not cool! And will not be tolerated by anyone in 51SF! If you bully anyone at any of our shows I will throw you out myself from on stage. Everyone deserves to live in peace. Elitist attitudes or discriminatory behavior is sad and educating that from society is tuff but we stand strong against bullying and always will.

What are some of the words you live by?

“Go big or go home.”- anon
“Never give up, never give in, this too shall pass.”- AA
“Goonies never die!”- The Goonies
“If only one week a year is a success, then the discord was worth bearing all along.”- 51 Shortfalls

Interview with Super Prime:

How did you guys come up with the band Super Prime?

“Adam and I met in class at school, we both had a background in audio engineering. We got together to record some demos for a friend of ours, after the session we traded some riffs and songs. A couple weeks later we recorded some really bad acoustic demos and decided to start a band. It took us a couple months to come up with a name. We knew we wanted it to be Super “Something”, the word Prime came up and we stuck with it. That’s the story of how Super Prime was born.” -Austin

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

Our favorite show so far was on April 28th this past spring at this little Bostonian burger place across the street from our school called BGood. They had a small room upstairs, it fit about 80 people or so, they’d rent for free and we’d have shows. This show we had last April was packed; it was the first time we had a pit at a show, the first time people we’re singing along to our songs, it was probably the most amazing experience for Super Prime so far.

What advice would you give to kids wanting to start a band?

Write music with your friends and do it everyday you can. Find a steady practice schedule that works for your band and stick to it. Make yourself a few social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Reverbnation, etc.) and find other bands similar to yours in the area then try to book shows with those bands at local venues. Booking shows can be a difficult and long process but if you stick to it you will get shows that will get you fans.

What has been you guys’ biggest musical influence thus far?

We’ve been listening to a lot of stuff over a pretty wide variety of genres. Our soundtrack to riding in the van has consisted of Bon Iver, Fall Out Boy, Title Fight, Drake, Ne-Yo, Jtronious Quasar, and a bunch of other stuff. The list is nearly endless.

What inspires you to play and write music?

The kids at the shows. Someone else out there can relate to you no matter how you feel, and music is a way to bridge the distance we sometimes imagine between ourselves. - Adam

Who is your hero?

Anyone who doesn’t question what their heart tells them.

What was the first job you had?

Servin up pancakes at IHOP.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Title Fight, Miike Snow, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, Tycho, Big Awesome, Bim Sherman

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

Dad.  Making guys all over the place look bad.  Gumption, fortitude and strength of character come to mind.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

Every band from the 90’s! Even the one-hit-wonders.  Love it.

What are you views on groupies?

Super Prime groupies are called Super Dimes.  All I can say is that I’m aware that I don’t live in a movie.  Everyone else, you’re not invincible.  Be sure to bag it up.  Better yet, just get a girlfriend. - Adam

What are your views on bullying?

Any bullies out there have a problem, I’ll beat that ass. - Adam

Interview with Thomas Linnane from The Jealous Sea

How did you guys come to be in the band The Jealous Sea?

I actually joined the band about 3 weeks ago after noticing they were looking for a new Bass player on their face book page. I fell in love             with the songs after listening and couldn't pass up the opportunity to tryout. Little did I know, in just three weeks, these guys would not only be my     band mates, but my best friends. This has definitely been one of the best experiences of my life.

What has been your favorite show and venue to play so far?

We recently just played at The Middle East Downstairs for the So Last Summer Festival. Every band was supportive of each other, and we met a ton of awesome people as well. As of now, I'd have to say that show is at the top of my list for favorites.

What advice would you give to kids wanting to start a band?

Find a group of people you can create a close bond and friendship with. Being comfortable with who you play is a great key to creating music you enjoy. Also, always strive to become a better musician. If you become satisfied with your ability, that's great! But if you are in the mindset that you need to get better and expand your ability to play, you will learn a lot more than you ever would've known. Last but not least, have fun with it! There is gonna be stress full times when it comes to music. Whether it is writing, playing a bad show, or just having an off day at practice, always remember why you do it. Some people step away from the passion they have for music, and I think passion is one of the biggest things needed to not only be in a band, but to be a successful musician.

What has been you guys biggest musical influence thus far?

I have a very wide range of musical influences, but the one band that sticks out to me the most would have to be Green Day. They are the whole reason I ever got into playing music. Mathew, John, and Jay, I'm sure have a very wide range of influences as well. It sort of makes us who we are and I like the fact we can all be so close with having different influences.
What inspires you to play and write music?

Ever since I turned 12, I developed this huge passion for music in general. I can appreciate many different ideas, and for some reason I don't necessarily have to be inspired to play or write, I simply just have a natural love towards doing it. Hahah I'm not sure if that made sense, it is really hard to describe how much music means to me, and I guess just having the passion to play in front of people is something that inspires me everyday.

Who is your hero?

I used to have a serious man crush on Billie Joe Armstrong haha. Its okay though I'm sure Mathew has a thing or two to say about his man crush from years ago. Anyways, he is definitely one of my heroes for the simple fact I learned so much of my LIVE ability and confidence through his energy and LIVE performances over the years I've seen him.

What was the first job you had?

My first job was at Target next to the Liberty Tree Mall.

What are some of the bands you’re listening to right now?

Blink-182 is releasing a new album soon and I'm very excited to hear all the songs. I been hyped up playing all the old school Blink songs this past week, it's sort of like a blast from the past.

Who is the most important person in your life and why?

My mom and dad would have to share this one out equally. Although I may not always follow in the path they would like me to, they are always there for support no matter what. It's good to have someone in your life you can trust and to be there when you need them most. My parents are definitely those type of people. I also have to give a shout out to my neighborhood friends as well though. Those guys are a huge reason I ever stayed with music.

What bands would be on your dream tour?

All Time Low, Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Simple Plan.

What are you views on groupies?

I try not too judge people although something like this can be annoying haha. I suppose to each his/her own, and handling things in a professional manner is probably the best way to deal with situations like these.

What are your views on bullying?

I actually recently attended a concert to raise the awareness of bullying and why it needs to stop. I have a strong belief that we should treat others with the same respect we would like to receive ourselves.

What are some of the words you live by?

Finding something in life that you truly love and put your heart into is worth pursuing. The road to success isn't going to be easy, and it might not even work out. But in the end, if you can say you put your honest effort into doing whatever it may be that you pursue, at least you can live your life knowing you gave it your best shot. To some all that up into short words, Don't regret something you ever loved.

What is the biggest show you’ve played so far?

So Last Summer Festival and a sold out show w/ Sparks The Rescue @ The Space in Hamden, CT which sold out!

What is one stereotype people have for your band?

I'm not sure if this is necessarily a stereotype but for some reason a lot of people like to jokingly ask if they can take us for a test drive hahah. Hence our song "Test Drive". Jeez that came out really weird.

What can we expect from The Jealous Sea for the rest of 2011 and early 2012?

Definitely an awesome LIVE show. We been working really hard to make our set list as best as possible, and soon will beincorporating some awesome lights! Also, get ready for some new music and merchandise for our upcoming shows being booked. We've already been demoing some new songs so soon enough you will all be able to hear it.

What are some last words from the band?

Thanks so much for allowing us to be apart of this interview. To anyone that has supported us thus far, from the bottom of our hearts you mean the world to us and we couldn't do this without you!

Third Place Victory

We had the chance to talk with the band Third Place Victory and here is what they had to say.

1: How did you get the band name Third Place Victory?
Well James and Adam were in a band before, nothing serious just practiced to keep us musically active. We thought if we were to ever have an EP what to call it and James came up with "Third Place Victory", and that’s the story :)

2: How long has the band been together?
We've been together properly since August 2010

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?
Mike Lloyd - Vocals
James Pearce - Bass
Adam Hearn - Guitar
Charlie Turner - Guitar
Matt Verrell - Drums

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?
We'll all still be playing music as performing our music and having people give us good reviews means a lot. Whether or not we "make it" doesn’t really matter, as corny as it sounds we're in it for the love of music. However, if we do we hope to be playing shows worldwide and spreading our music all over.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?
I like to just take influence from life but also most of our songs are about women... in fact all of our songs are about women so it’s pretty obvious haha.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?
James; I'd be lying if I said I hadn’t. I had thought I had passed that problem until our most recent gig which was packed to the door but I think that was a mix of nerves and excitement. Really dislike the period of time before we hit the stage as we just want to get out there and play.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?
Matt; Having only been a band for a short time we haven’t had any weird gifts… yet. I’m sure if you ask us again in a year it would be a different story.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?
We have a strong hate for "sub genres" but find it difficult to define our genre...
Matt; I think the best way to describe our sound is heavy British pop punk, pretty much sums us up.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?
Mike; Well most fans that haven’t met us probably wouldn’t be aware but James and I are FREAKISHLY tall haha, both 6ft 8".

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

Matt; We take influence from many different genres so pin pointing a particular band is tricky. We take the catchiness of pop, the heavy beatdowns of hardcore, throw in some group shouts and meaningful lyrics and that’s what defines us as a band. No one does it quite like us.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?
Matt; They are to an extent. Obviously it’s not really their sort of music but they like what we do.

12: How did the band start?
Matt; James and Adam had a three piece band in 2006 called kAREN. Third Place Victory stemmed from that really. Mike joined on drums only to switch to vocals a short time later. I joined on drumming duties and we then got Charlie on second guitar. It’s taken a long time but we’re all dedicated and passionate.

13: What got you interested in playing music?
Matt; I’ve been playing music ever since I can remember. Started playing drums at 10 years old out of curiosity. I only had a single snare drum at my school so I tried to get as many different sounds out of it as I possibly could. I think it’s made me a better musician.

14: What was the first album you all bought?
James; B*Witcheds album...it was on tape and cost £10.99...and that's not a joke!

Mike; The Smurfs Christmas Party

Matt; Corona's album Rhythm Of The Night on cassette in 1994

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?
James; Bought Yellowcard’s new single on Itunes recently, felt young again.

Mike; Prince Purple Rain vinyl. The film is absolute cheese but great soundtrack.

Matt; P!nk's latest single Raise You Glass, such a tune

16: What can people expect from Third Place Victory in 2011?
Mike; Full EP should be out by early February and we'll be shooting our first music video soon too as well as a follow up EP out soon with any luck

SEND THE MESSENGER

Band Bio - Adelphia, the tattoo every member bares across their chest to show their commitment to the common purpose and to one another. Meaning brotherhood or brothers in Greek, Adelphia symbolizes everything this band is founded on. It is because of this foundation that the band has formed. With each member hailing from different parts of the country/world; Texas, Massachusetts and even Northern Ireland, Send The Messenger understands the commitment that is required to make music their career and fulfill their dream.

Combining elements of aggressive, metal breakdowns and fluid, rhythm and blues infused melodies, Send The Messenger strives to continuously create novel permutations of the musical wheel, redefining with each iteration the perception of the genre. “We write what we feel and what we feel is powerful” says front man and former Opera singer David Pinter. Unsigned but unwavering Send The Messenger plans to take the world by storm.

1: How did you get the band name Send The Messenger?

A Messenger In ancient times was someone who could not be killed, because killing the Messenger would start a war between the factions. Therefore, The Messenger in Theory is an un-killable entity of deliverance. We all liked that concept because our music is an embodiment of us and thats something that will live forever.

2: How long has the band been together?

Send The Messenger as it is now, has only been a band for about 6 months.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

 David Pinter - Clean Vocals

Garrett McGrath - Scream Vocals

Carlin Carter - Bass

Corey Lambert - Guitar

Chris Sanchez - Guitar

Matty Gorman - Drums

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?
We plan to live happily on a squash/potato farm together, livin the dream! ...although that'd be nice ..the more realistic answer would be; Its hard to say given every members drive and dedication, hopefully we will have released our 2nd album and pushing for our 3rd as well as an International Tour.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?
Of course everyone has their individual influences..but as a group, We believe that we inspire one another...seeing six people come together for a common goal and dream is really inspiring. We really try to express that in our music and live performance.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

We all get that mixed feeling of nervousness and excitement before a show stars. There are just so many "what ifs?" Like what if a string breaks or what if the sampler doesn't work properly or even what if an amp blows out. However once the music starts all of the "what ifs" and butterflies seem to fly away, and all there is remaining is music.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Haha :) ...well theres been a few! But definitely the most creative and heartfelt was some lanyards we received with all our favorite colors embroiled into them. (P.S. Thanks Amber!!)

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

We like to call our sound.. Epic-Core! We are very Melodic/Post-hardcore in nature, and have been compared to Of Machines, Broadway, The Color Morale, and The Devil Wears Prada.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

How close we are as a band! We all live together, work together and function as a family. We also all have a matching tattoo on our chest, Adelphia- meaning brothers, or brotherly in Greek.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

We all have numerous and different musical influences thats what makes our music so diverse. Collectively though: Of Mice and Men, The Color Morale, In:Aviate, Of Machines, Pierce The Veil, Thrice, and A Day To Remember.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Surprisingly, yes, all of our parents are 100% supportive! Matty's father even paid for him to come from North Ireland to America as well as all of his expenses while he is here.

12: How did the band start?

A Compilation of Craigslist and Youtube.

13: What got you interested in playing music?

We all developed a passion for music through watching other bands and being surrounded by music our whole life.

14: What was the first album you all bought?
The Backstreet Boys, can't go wrong with the classics!

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

A Roland Sampler to make our live performance more intense and real.

16: What can we expect from Send The Messenger in 2011?

Expect Merch, Professional Recordings, Tour dates, and many many other big surprises we have in the works! 2011 is going to be a big year for us!

We got the chance to talk with Dave Machado of the band Take the Hint. Take the Hint is a four piece band Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

So how did you guys come up with the band name Take the Hint?

Dave – “We got our band name "Take the Hint" from the All Time Low song coffee shop soundtrack we had other names the first was box head which I hated. Hahahaha. We were pretty much just a blink-182 cover band at the time but then it was time to move on.”

That’s cool so your name is All Time Low inspired. Ok Dave so how long has the band been together?

Dave – “For about a year I mean I wasn’t always in the band originally Dom played drums and there was someone else playing bass then he got the boot now I am the drummer and a lot better things had come from that but we usually consider the bands start from when I joined cause we actually started doing stuff ha-ha.”

So what is everyone’s name and position in the band?

Tony Stazzeri-Guitar/vocals

Dom Giordano-bass/vocals

Seb Jones-lead guitar

Dave machado-drums

Honestly where do you see the band in five years?

Dave- “In 5 years I hope to see us touring everywhere I hope to have a huge fan base and just have people screaming our songs it would be amazing.”

Those are some good aspirations. So far what or who has inspired you to write music?

Dave- “Life is the biggest thing that inspires me someone names a topic to write a bout I could use experiences to write songs and just everything but mainly tony writes the song and he writes about the same stuff life it’s just a heavy topic but we do have inspirations all time low, blink 182, a day to remember the wonder years.”

Truthfully have you ever suffered from stage fright and if so how did you overcome it?

Dave- “well the first show we played was at the trocadero theatre in Philadelphia its really big I think 1500 people it holds we all I think kept going to the bathroom my arms were shaking and I have to play drums so it’s like ahhhh what am I going to do and when it came down to it was like we do it and stop being scared or piss ourselves and run away and we weren’t going to do that LoL I didn’t think I would be scared though but I was I’m pretty sure Dom wasn't he didn’t seem it we all thought Seb was going to like cry LoL he’s a shy kid and tony was nervous.”

Well at least you all overcame it to do what you do today. As fan gifts go what have been the most creative gift so far?

Dave- “Lol we got Oreos and cup cakes when we played with stereo skyline oh wait actually seb had a vibrator throne at him on stage and the words “have my babies Seb " screamed I mean it was awesome especially the fact that it was a dude wait what?? LoL”

For new people who want to check out your band how would you describe your music?

Dave- “Pop-punk especially the music tats in production more of a all time low, wonder years sound were putting gang vocals in a and a lot of stuff its going to be sweet.”

As a band what bands have influenced your music so far?

Dave- “All time low, the wonder years, major league, blink-182, a day to remember, hit the lights, asking Alexandria just bands like that.”

Ok so some people’s parents would dislike the fact that their child is in band. Honestly do all of your parents support you guys being in a band?

Dave- “Yea all of our parents are they’ve been our rides since day one also hahahaha.”

That is good that they support you all in playing and performing music. How did the band get together?

Dave-  “Well I don’t know how they got it together but I know that I used to run into tony in Wal-Mart telling him to start playing guitar again so I can start a band and he started one without me and me and him were going to start a separate one instead I ended up being in "take the hint!"”

What made you decide you wanted to be in a band?

Dave- “I really wanted to be in a band and make music and tour it looks so fun.”

What was the first album you bought?

Dave – “Hahaha I think I bought an nsync album I don’t remember LoL”

Amely

We had the chance to interview Petie Pizarro lead singer of Amely. Amely is a band from Orlando, Florida. In 2010 they released their EP Hello World and did a Christmas tour with Sparks the Rescue. They will be touring this year and recording some new music. Let’s get to know Amely better and see what the future holds for them.

So Petie how did the band come together since you all are from different states?

Petie- “I moved to Orlando for college back in 2006, and met Nate (originally from Ohio) who had also come to Orlando for school. Brandon moved here to Orlando from Boston a year after that and became a friend of ours through the local music scene. We contacted Patrick online because we heard from a friend that he was interested in being in a band after he left his previous band.”

That is awesome that you all met up and formed a band. Together as a band what has been your biggest influence musically?

Petie - "Musically our biggest influences are Bon Jovi, 30 Seconds to Mars, Jimmy Eat World, Jimmy Gnecco, and Paramore."

Those are some great artists. So how would you describe your music to new fans?

Petie - "Our music is always evolving and in it's current state we are trying to recreate the best things about 80's pop music and incorporate it into very modern rock and pop."

I’m sure you guys will be very successful at it. Did any of you imagine that this is what you would be doing in your 20's?

Petie - "Some of the other guys have absolutely been dreaming of doing this for a long time. Personally, I started music about 6 years ago as a hobby but I am glad that it has gotten to this level."

So how long have you guys been together with the lineup you have now?

Petie - "We have been a band since March of 2009."

So you guys have been together as a band for two years. Who did you all admire musically and non musically?

Petie - "There is so much great music out there to admire nowadays, despite the fact that people think that music is dead. They are simply looking in the wrong places. Non musically we really look up to our parents and respect everything that they have done for us to get us to this stage in our life and support our career."

I think that is one thing that people do not realize that their parents sacrifice so much for their children to help them achieve their dreams.  What has been the first concert you ever attended?

Petie - "The first concert I ever attended was NSYNC. Epic."

On the same note, what was the first album you bought?

Petie - "The first album that I went and spent my own personal money on was probably Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory. It changed my life."

So you have been touring for awhile and who is the messiest while on tour?

Petie - "I would have to say Patrick. NO OFFENSE BRO!"

Can any of you  play any other instruments other than what you play on stage?

Petie - "We all play a variety of instruments actually. That is what makes writing music together so great. We all play guitar, bass, drums, and piano. I also play a bit of ukelele and Brandon plays the vibes."

That is pretty impressive. How did you decide on a career in music or did the music choose you?

Petie - "The music definitely chose me. I didn't think that I would be writing songs that appealed to so many people, but I am glad that I explored this side of my mind and I can't wait to explore it even further."

So what can fans expect from Amely in 2011?

Petie - "We will begin touring in April with The Downtown Fiction, He is We, and Cady Groves. We are also currently writing our first full-length record which we will be recording this summer and releasing later this year!"

This year is going to be an amazing year for you all. Thank you so much for allowing us to interview you. We can't wait to see what your future holds.

A lot of my past relationships inspire me alot. I also just think about what would be good stuff that people would relate to. When i write a song i want people to be able to really connect to it and be able to relate it to a part of their life.

Well i cant really speak for everyone, but one time a girl made me a Build-A-Bear and sent it to me in the mail. haha im not sure how she got my address but she lived like across the country. haha it was awesome :)

Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

Happy, Positive, Pop-Rock jams. Its just fun music! haha

What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

Probably that I have a tattoo on the inside of my lip that says "SWAG" haha

What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

We the Kinds, All Time Low, The Maine, and A Rocket to the Moon. Those four bands really got me in to Pop Rock stuff.

Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Yeah totally! I have the best parents in the entire world! :)

How did the band start?

Well i was actually a drummer in a band when i was like 13 and it was AWFUL haha after that band broke up i didnt really do much with music again until i was 16 me and daniel started making electronic songs on my computer and then we decided that we should actually start making it a full band project. and the rest is history!

What got you interested in playing music?

Ive always loved music like even when i was a little kid and its been something ive always been drawn to. then my parents bought me my first drum set when i was 10 and ive been addicted to music ever since.

What was the first album you all bought?

I think it was like 2001 i was like 8 years old and i secretly bought 'Enema of the State' by Blink 182. My parents didn't really want me listening to that being so young. But they never found out! YAY! haha

What has been your most recent music purchase?

I just bought Deadmau5's new record and it is BOMB! if you like Dub-Step go get that album!

What can people expect from Simple As Surgery in 2011?

Well me and daniel are both only 18 so we are just getting started! fans can expect us to be touring as much as possible and to be releasing more music really soon. This band is our full time job and our passion and our top goal is to show off our music to as many people as humanly possible :)

 City Under Fire

We had the chance to interview City Under Fire and here is what they had to say.

1: How did you get the band name City Under Fire?

The name came from our interest in the idea that eventually the world will end, its kinda the first thing you visualize when you think about it.  We had a couple other name ideas but none of them resonated well with us at the time, and the name itself rolls off the tongue pretty easily.

2: How long has the band been together?

The bands been together for a little under a year and a half.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Jason Salazar - Vocals

Jason Freund - Guitar/Vocals

Brian Kahaku - Guitar

Nick Maillet - Keys/Synth

Chase Sapp - Bass

Brendan Reza - Drums

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Playing, touring, Straightening our hair, you know the typical stuff.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

We do it because its something we love to do and enjoy the whole process of writing and playing...also if we weren't in this band currently we would be pretty bored.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

We don't get nervous before shows anymore, its something we love to do so the only feeling we get before we go on is the excitement from adrenaline.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Somebody once tipped us with one of these $5 bills that's folded into the shape of a Hawaiian shirt, you wouldn't believe how hard those things are to unfold.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

Energy, lots of it.  Were obviously a metal band but we always try our best to keep an energetic and exciting feel in everything we do.  Our biggest goal is to make the listener feel like they can take on the world, its a cliche answer but we think its the best way to explain not only our music but us as a band.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

Our Guitar player Brian broke his leg right before we went to record our ep up in Portland and pretty much spent the whole time laying on a couch bed yelling at Nick and watching Dragon Ball Z. The only time he got up was to crawl up the stairs and unlock the door so we could come back inside from having fun outside.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

We are all into a wide range of music from Horror rock to death metal to indie, such as; Norma Jean, Lost prophets, As I lay Dying, Dredg, Taking back sunday, Say anything.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Not at first but now that they see our commitment and that we're taking this seriously, so there's alot more support from them.

12: How did the band start?

Jason and Jason had been writing songs together before they even had a full lineup, after almost a year of searching for members they finally managed to piece the whole thing together and start playing shows as City Under Fire.

13: What got you interested in playing music?

At some point in all of our lives we all became really big fans of music and decided to start making our own.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Jason S - Sing the Sorrrow (AFI)

Jason F - Running with Scissors (Wierd AL)

Nick - Hybrid Theory (Linkin Park)

Chase - Big Willie Style (Will Smith)

Brendan - take this to your grave  (Fall Out Boy)

Brian - Take off your pants and jacket (blink 182)

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

Jason recently bought the new Glassjaw EP, its pretty rad.  Nick Bought the new Britney Spears Single....worth every penny

16: What can fans expect from City Under Fire in 2011?

Besides the release of the new EP Illusions, alot of shows and hopefully some extensive touring as well.  Also the normal stuff like a music video, merch and hopefully brian will break his other leg pretending hes kobe.

New County

We had the chance to interview Tony Rodini of  New County and here is what he had to say.

1: How did you get the band name New County?

The name stems back from a year ago when we first started and were writing and recording our EP in Phoenix AZ. We really wanted our name to represent a sort of re-birth of our sound and the fact that we were in a new atmosphere, we wanted to include the word "County". We put everything together and New county was born!

2: How long has the band been together?

We have been a band for about a year. We are still a young group but are proud of the things we have accomplished so far!

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Tony Rodini (20) Vocals. Tyler Lyons (19) guitar, Joe Flack (22) guitar, Erick Camarota (22) bass guitar.

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Hopefully full time touring and being able to do it comfortably. Getting our foot more and more into the music industry and creating a career out of what we love to do : )

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

Many songs are written just about life and what goes on. Be it girls, friends, and hardships, or just about having fun and aspiring to do what we love. Some songs don't necessarily have to be true, I like to just tell a story in my songs and sometimes have written lyrics just from an outside person looking in and telling a story.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

Ha, I'm sure when we all started in earlier bands we suffered from stage fright, but we have all gotten over this. Just playing awesome shows and finding out that kids are really into what we are doing helped us overcome it. I get more nervous playing a small show, would rather play in front of as many people as possible!

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Probably posters with our lyrics on them have been the most creative gift. It was really creative because the lyrics were from an un released song, they really had to go our there and find it on the internet to get the lyrics!

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

We are just a pop band doing what we love. We want to be able to connect with as many people as possible and have fun doing it at the same time. We Rock out live and really buckle down with song writing and production in the studio. I would describe us as a pop band with influences from anybody from Taio Cruz to All American Rejects.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

One thing fans do not know about us is that we are all afraid of the dark. When we stay over at places together like the studio or after a show we all spoon each other and keep the lights on.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

My favorite band is Third Eye Blind. However, lately my biggest influences have been artists like Taio Cruz, Jason Derulo, All American Rejects, and believe it or not, Kesha. As fake as people may think she is, there is so much realness and passion behind her!

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Our parents are totally supportive of us. It took them a while to see that it could actually be something bigger than a garage band though. We've been featured in magazines, played with everyone from All Time Low to Vanilla Ice, and had placements in MTV shows, and I think after all this they start to see that we are gradually building up a career and supportive fan base.

12: How did the band start?

The band started with me and Joe. We used to play in a band called The Goodnight Anthem. We started something new and our sound developed, as did our fan base. We met Tyler when our old bands played together with Vanilla Ice, ha! When we brought Eric into the picture, everything just seemed to click and ever since, New County has been going hard!

13: What got you interested in playing music?

Just growing up and seeing all our local heros playing shows got us all into music. I actually started listening to music from rap wap back in the day. We were all in shitty bands when we were like 13, but we learned what we were doing and got good at it haha.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Trick Daddy's album , I really can't remember the title but that was my JAM back in the day.

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

A midi interface which has allowed me to add a lot of cool sounds/ key parts to recordings. Going to start bringing this into the live show too!

16: What can people expect from New County in 2011?

2011 is going to be our year! You can expect a new EP really soon and hopefully after that another CD. We are excited to share our new songs and new sound with you all and can't wait to build in the music industry and grow as a band

Armistice

We had the chance to interview the band Armistice and here is what they had to stay.

1: How did you get the band name Armistice?

We got the name from History class this year. We were going over World War 1 in class and we started to discuss Armistice Day, which is now known as Veterans Day. It was the final day of WWI and it basically just means peace and we thought it sounded cool.

2: How long has the band been together?

We have been a band since the last week of October 2010.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Andrew Soucy - Vocals/Guitar

Nate Berry - Drums

Allison Orr - Bass/Vocals

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

We hope we be on the road touring around the country. That’s pretty much every band’s goal but we are willing to put in the drive and effort to make it a reality. It’s our goal and we will try our best to make it happen. Hopefully we’ll have a couple albums under our belt as well.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

A lot of bands and people inspire us to play music, but we also see it as a creative outlet for us to express ourselves. Some bands that inspire us to do what we do are Four Year Strong, Green Day, Amely, AFI, The Cure, Stay and many, many more bands.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

We are always a bit nervous before big shows but that happens to everyone. We have never really suffered from actual stage fright. But when we get nervous we usually just go hangout outside and drink some water and try to relax before we go on.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Well, we’ve only been a band for 3 months, and our fans have been super awesome to us, supporting us and helping us with everything. But we haven’t received a gift yet.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

We’d probably call it pop/punk but to get specific, I’d say we have poppy vocals and more punk music. I honestly don’t know how to truly categorize us, but pop/punk fits.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

A lot of our fans are surprised to find out that we’re all only 16 and touring all over New England. We just love to play music and we’ve been playing shows all over New England since we were 14. They seem to find it surprising expecting us to be 20 or older.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

Bands that have been our biggest influence so far would be Four Year Strong, Green Day, Panic At The Disco, All Time Low, There For Tomorrow, AFI, Social Distortion and many more.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Our parents are always very supportive of the band. Before we could drive they would drive us to every show we could book all over New England. We’re super grateful for them and they have always supported us.

12: How did the band start?

Allison and I (Nate) were in an old band called A Time For Everything. That band broke up awhile ago and we were introduced to Andrew through one of our friends. We began to jam and we started the band this past October.

13: What got you interested in playing music?

We have all just grown up listening to music and having a big passion for it. We all eventually picked up instruments and we just kept playing from there.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Allison: Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow

Andrew: Matchbox 20 - Mad Season

Nate: New Found Glory - Self Titled 2000

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

Allison: Punk Goes Crunk

Andrew: Four Year Strong - Explains It All

Nate: Sleeping With Sirens - With Eyes to See and Eyes to Hear

16: What can people expect from Armistice in 2011?

They can expect a ton of new merch and a debut EP in early summer. We also hope to start doing some regional touring this summer so look out for those! Fans can stay up to date with everything Armistice on our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/armisticemaine

Safety Word Orange

We had the chance to interview the band Safety Word Orange from Richmond, Virginia

and here is what they had to say.

1: How did you get the band name Safety Word Orange?

The name, Safety Word Orange, comes from our singer James Mason. Years back when he was living in LA he was at a low point. Him and his friends joked that if things ever got really bad "the safety word was orange." Luckily it never got that bad, but years later when he was out of his rut, he received a package from his friend with the cover reading "Safety Word Orange." The name stuck with him. We tend to think of it as a reminder of where we have been, as well as, where we are going.

2: How long has the band been together?

The band has been together for 3 years now. There have been a few line-up changes. Robbie and James are the two original members.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

James Mason (lead vocals)
Robbie Rusbuldt (guitar/vocals)
Jackson Wise (guitar/vocals)
Will Michalik (Bass)
Travis King (Drums)

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Haha. That is very touch question to answer. I'll do my best at this one. We all want Safety Word Orange to go as far as it possibly can. So if everything went the best it possibly could go, which never happens, we see ourselves with support from label, mgmt, and booking. We would hopefully by then have cut at least 2 full lengths. As of now, we are all itching to do an LP.  In five years, I would hope to see us doing a substantial amount of touring.  This is all if, and only if, things went really well. We all understand that this industry moves really quickly, so we are focusing on doing the best we can now.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

We take inspiration from everything. As far as bands go we all have different tastes. Our singer James loves some Third Eye Blind haha, which isn't hard to tell. Our guitarist Robbie loves ska and punk, I(Jackson) am really into the pop-rock scene right now, Will really likes the pop-punk stuff and Travis can get into anything that has a good beat. We are all inspired and influenced by what we listen to and I think you can hear a lot of that in the songs we write.

As far as inspiration goes though, I think our experiences in life really inspire us to do what we are doing. We all are at very weird points in our life individually. And especially with our new EP that's due out this spring/summer, you will get an understand of some of the struggles we face.

I think its also important to note, that we take a TON of inspiration from the bands that are putting in a lot of work right now and coming up in the scene.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

YES! I remember my first show I was shaking in my skin. And when we performed on our local radio station you could hear the fear in my voice when I sang haha. We still all get nervous from performing. I think that it wouldn't be so much fun if we didn't get that rush. But the more you play, the more comfortable you get on stage.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

I'd say the weirdest gift would probably have to be a Build-a-Bear haha.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

If Third Eye Blind had a baby with Taking Back Sunday, and then Mayday Parade and/or All Time Low got in on the action too. We would be the he-child that came out

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

We all love playing and singing along to Billy Joels, For the Longest Time :)

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

I kinda touched on this earlier, but Third Eye Blind, Four Year Strong, The Goo Goo Dolls, Jimmy Eat World, Mayday Parade, All Time Low, Less Than Jake, Fairweather, Real Big Fish, Go Radio, The All American Rejects...There are sooo many. You get the picture

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Some are very supportive and some are not very supportive. Overall, most of our parents understand what we are trying to accomplish and the reasons why.

12: How did the band start?

James and Robbie were both out in LA and pursuing music. They were introduced through mutual friends and the rest is history.

13: What got you interested in playing music?

I think we all have a significant love for what music is and what it can do to you. We all got into it in our own ways, but its safe to say we saw how powerful it can be and we were drawn to it.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Jeeze! Good questions haha.

I(Jackson) think my first album was Blackstreet haha. I'm a sucker for some R&B.

James: Now Way Out - Sean Puffy Combs

Robbie: Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkin

The rest of the band could not seem to remember their first album they purchased.

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

I just bought the new Jimmy Eat World CD! Super pumped on that! I cannot wait to see them when they come to Richmond next month. I know both James and Robbie are really into the newest Punchline CD.

16: What can people expect from Safety Word Orange in 2011?

This will be an interesting year for us. We are going to be releasing our third EP this spring/summer. Up until then, we are going to be doing as much promotion as possible. You expect us to be playing as many shows as we can, as well as, some short tours along the East Coast and maybe a little in the mid-west!

It's a bumpy ride for all bands at our level, but we are strapped in tight so lets see where we end up!

A Summer Scene

We had the chance to interview A Summer Scene and this is what they had to say.

1: How did you get the band name A Summer Scene?

The name was a collective effort from all of us. We wanted a name that would remind people of good times with their friends, where they had fun and where life was just great. It wasn't until after a couple months of being a band that we realized "A Summer Scene" was abbreviated with A.S.S. but people were digging it so much we just started embracing it.

2: How long has the band been together?

We've been a band for almost a year now. But we've only been known for about eight months. Our first three to four months together were spent mostly writing, practicing, and recording.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Tim Mieney-Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar

Jimmy Causyn-Bass/ Vocals

Jake Bliss-Lead Guitar

Shane Causyn-Drums

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Five years is a long ways away but so far what we've learned from growing up around music is that nothing is ever set in stone until it actually happens. Some bands catch a break and are able to tour 300 days out of the year right out of high school, others never even get that chance. In the music business it all comes down to who you know. And with lots of luck and some talent you might just make your dream come true. So in five years we hope to be signed, touring and playing the music that we love.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

Events in our life are the biggest inspiration for our writing. We really make it come from the heart. Even though some lyrics may sound playful they are coming from an event that has effected us in some way.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

None of us really suffer from stage fright. For the most part we just get nervous about how well we will perform.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

We haven't received many material gifts but one of the coolest things our fans have done for us is started street teams in their area. It was really awesome to see that people liked our music that much that they were going to take time out of their lives to help us grow. So in that regard that has been the greatest gift we have been given.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

We classify our music as Pop Punk but there is also an Alternative feel mixed in too.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

This is hard because we all tweet everything we do constantly. But as a band I would say something people might not know about us is that we take our hair very seriously haha.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

Hands down Blink 182 for every member in the band. They have been a huge influence on us not only as a band but as individuals. Other bands that have inspired us to write and perform music are All Time Low, Boys Like Girls,

New Found Glory, Taking Back Sunday,  Forever The Sickest Kids, The Maine and A Rocket To The Moon

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Yes definitely! Our parents do their best to make it to all of our shows. They bought us our first instruments when we were kids which contributed to why we started playing in the first place. Tim's parents also let us practice in their basement every day of the week so that's a huge benefit because we don't have to rent out a practice space.

12: How did the band start?

The band formed after Jimmy, Jake and Shane started writing music together while Jimmy made the transition from being a drummer to a bassist. Then the three of them later brought Tim into the band. Tim and Jimmy had been in bands together before, same with Jake and Shane.

13: What got you interested in playing music?

Tim- My dad started teaching me to play drums when I was ten. I played in a couple bands with friends for a few years and then wanted to learn guitar so my friend taught me how to play some things and from there I picked the rest of it up. Youtube has also been a big help to me as well.

Shane- Just loving music so much encouraged me to start playing  :)

Jimmy- Before I could ever even play an instrument music has been a huge part of my life. Growing up listening and watching bands like Blink-182, Simple Plan, The Starting Line, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte always have gave me my inspiration to play. I want to do as they did, be able to reach people by doing something you love. Music has been and always will be one of the biggest parts of my life.

Jake- My dad got guitar lessons for my sister when i was like 11 and she didn't want to go so i went instead basically haha.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Tim- I can't remember actually buying a physical CD. Ever since I've been into music there's been some free share-ware site where I've been able to download all my favorite songs. I do know that the first CD I ever was inspired by was Blink 182's Enema of The State.

Shane- I used to always buy Cd's when i was like 10 haha, but i think it was either a green day Cd or From Under the Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy.

Jimmy- My first album was Good Charlotte: Young and Hopeless

Jake- First cd i got into was a borrowed Enema Of The State from my friend if that counts haha i don't really buy cd's.

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

Tim- I think the last CD I bought was of a band called The Sunstreak that got signed from our hometown.

Shane- What Separates Me From You: A Day To Remember

Jimmy- Mayday Parade: anywhere but here

Jake- I'm gonna say I bought it but it was downloaded illegally.

Every Avenue-Picture Perfect

16: What can we expect from A Summer Scene in 2011?

We'll be releasing our second EP (which is not yet titled) in the spring. Also we hope to land a spot on Warped Tour this summer. And hopefully we'll be able to reach out to states that we haven't been to yet and play some shows for new faces!

The Summer Soundtrack

We had the chance to interview The Summer Soundtrack and this is what they had to say.

1: How did you get the band name The Summer Soundtrack?

Summer is a time for good times and making memories. When you look back on you’re summer there’s always those few songs or bands that create the soundtrack for the playback of those memories. We wanted to be that band.

We started as an acoustic band in the summer of 2009 with only Brandon Ruckman (Guitar) and I as members. The full band has been together a little over a year now.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Ben Lohle - Vocals

Brandon Ruckman - Guitar

Shawn Langley - Guitar

Dallas Ruiz - Drums

Chase Martinez - Bass

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

In five years we would like to have become signed to a record label, completed a second full length record, and be on tour throughout the U.S.

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

Ben- Everything around me inspires me to make music. Everything about life itself is a great motivation. I enjoy making music that people will enjoy listening to.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

Ben- I’ve always been okay with performing in front of people. It’s always a matter of time before you get truly comfortable. Once you’re comfortable it’s easy to feed off of the crowd’s energy and get into the feel of things.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Ben- I’ve never really been given anything too creative. I’ve received homemade bracelets. And once someone brought us skittles because our facebook said we liked them.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

I think we have a unique sound but we’re considered pop . Similar bands include The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon, and The Ready Set.

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

Ben- I eat really healthy, even when I’m touring.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

Ben- Personally all music has influenced me in some way, everything from Death Cab For Cutie to Bring Me The Horizon.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Ben- I think every parent wants their kid to go to college and have a solid career but they support my choices and goals within the  music industry.

12: How did the band start?

The band started as a two-member acoustic band in 2009. We’d both played in numerous bands before The Summer Soundtrack. We decided that we wanted to create our own sound and band, so here we are!

13: What got you interested in playing music?

Ben- After going to my first show I knew right away that I wanted to create my own band and play music in front of people.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Ben- Honestly it’d probably be some old school backstreet boys or blink 182.

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

Ben- I really enjoy Taylor Swift’s new CD and anything by the Cab is great.

16: Can fans in Massachusetts expect you back in 2011?

Yes!

17: What can people expect from The Summer Soundtrack in 2011?

We’re hoping some new music, more touring, and success!

Forget Me In Vegas

With catchy hooks and an All Time Low meets Cobra Starship sound, Forget Me In Vegas is taking the Rochester music scene by storm. A band originally thrown together last minute to jump on a show with Mayday Parade, they have established an increasingly large and intensely loyal fan base, hailing from all corners of the world.

We had the chance to interview Jamie Okrzynski of Forget Me In Vegas and this is what he had to say.

1: How did you get the band name Forget Me In Vegas?

The storyline of the Hangover inspired our bandname, we've almost forgotten our singer Chris in many places just not vegas.  However we all love going to Vegas, it's always a good time so it was fitting

2: How long has the band been together?

The band has been together for about a year and a half now.  Chris, Jamie, and Kevin have been the brains behind the music for the past year and we went through a few different drummers and bass players until we found our missing puzzle pieces Kyle and Russo who are the current drummer and bassist.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Chris Wurzburg-Vocals/Programming, Kevin Harrington-Guitar, Jamie Okrzynski-Guitar, Kyle Vorbach-Drums, Mike Russo-Bass

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

As long as the world doesn't end we see ourselves still making music and trying to influence as many people as we can.  We just want to make as many people as we can feel something, anything really.  Even if they hate us as long as we made the listeners feel something we've accomplished what we've set out to do

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

We have a lot of different idols and inspirations but we all really look up to Blink-182, Forever The Sickest Kids, The Black Keys, Das Racist, and many other amazing musicians

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

We've all had stage fright at one point or another, to get over it you just have to realize that as soon as you take the stage its your show and everyone there has paid to watch you perform so you better give them a show.  It's just about being comfortable with yourself and believing in yourself, you wanted to be there for a reason so there's no need to be extremely nervous, although it's normal to be nervous.  Butterflies are fun and stage fright can impact your performance in some of the best ways if you let it.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

We haven't really gotten any physical gifts from fans that we can keep, but fans have drawn amazing pictures of us and also done a lot of cool photoshop things for us and we really appreciate all of that stuff, it's amazing that people want to take time out of their lives to do things like that for us and words can't express how much we appreciate it!

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

We're a pop/rock band with an electro flare.  We don't like to make comparisons but if you like All Time Low or Forever The Sickest Kids you'll adore us!

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

We're an open book as a band, theres not many things that the fans don't know about us.  We try to stay as close as possible and keeping in touch is one of the main things we pride ourselves on.  We try to accomplish this through stickam's, broadcasting our shows and even recording our debut cd.  We're slow workers and get sidetracked pretty easily but I feel as though that adds a lot to the dynamics of our band and how we make music, we don't force anything.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

All Time Low, Forever The Sickest Kids, Blink-182, Sum-41, The Black Keys, Skrillex, Slayer, Guster, the list goes on and on and on

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Our parents are all pretty supportive of this band, we've done some pretty rad things that none of our past bands have accomplished and they see that so they've been pretty rad about this one!

12: How did the band start?

The band was originally thrown together to support Mayday Parade on a local show.  Jamie and Kevin were the only current members of the lineup that performed with Mayday Parade but after some changes we found our sound and are really excited about the lineup we have now!

13: What got you interested in playing music?

We all got into music at a young age and it just turned into a passion that we haven't been able to let go of.

14: What was the first album you all bought?

The first album I ever bought with my own money was Sum-41's All Killer No Filler, as far as the rest of the guys I'm not sure but it's probably pretty similar to that.

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

The most recent thing we purchased was Skrillex's new EP "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites"

16: What can we expect from Forget Me In Vegas in 2011?

In 2011 you can expect to see us come out with either a new EP or a new full length and we'll also be touring as far and as wide as we can afford to make happen!

After every new year, many make resolution's to better themselves or to make life changing decisions. Hands Like Glass is doing that very thing - their resolution is to be the best they can be as musicians, friends, and brothers. 1: How did you get the band name Hand Like Glass?

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

- there are plenty of influences in this band ranging from Sleeping With Sirens to BTBAM to today's hottest trance/electronica. But one of my greatest influences today come from a band called Boston. I'm a real classic rock guy. I try and involve that influence into today's world.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

I have stage fright every night we play haha. What takes it away is me getting onstage and doing what I do best. There's really no remedy.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Chocolate cupcakes! With the power symbol made of icing on top. lol

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

It's a combination of metal with post hardcore sprinkled with trance/electronica and vocals like NSYNC haha. ;)

Maybe that I was born in El Salvador.

Or that some of us in the band enjoy listening to old Disturbed music ;) lol

Of Machines

Soilwork

As I lay dying

BTBAM

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

To certain extent. Like any parents they worry about our futures. But they support us 100%.

12: How did the band start?

I decided to start an elctro based band with a buddy of mine ( who no longer is in the band btw). We were in a band before that with bassist Cesar Linares which ended. We asked Cesar if he wanted in, he said yes. After my buddy left Cesar and I set out to finding a solid line up and a sound in which no one had really explored. So now we're here.

My mother playing piano when I was a kid. I always wanted to play guitar but the school I was in had trumpet available. I picked that up and learned several instruments in time. I was about 11 years old.

BOYS WILL BE BOYS

We had the chance to interview the band Boys Will Be Boys from Fairfax County, Virginia. The band consists of Lehi Ruiz (vocals), Mark Wood (drums) and Mike Civetti (guitar).

1: How did you get the band name Boys Will Be Boys?

Lehi- We got the idea from a song name called "time to dance" from Panic! at the disco.

Mike- We some what embody the name or saying as well, we work hard at having fun and a good time. To which people say, boys will be boys I guess.’”

2: How long has the band been together?

The band has been around for 3 years and as this line up about 2.

3: What is everyone's name and position in the band?

Lehi-  i play bass and i sing in the band.

Mike, I play guitar and sing as well.

And then theres Mark who plays drums

4: Where do you see the band in 5 years?

Mike- In 5 years, hopefully still touring and still playing music for people who want to hear it. If we can travel and do what we love, thats more than enough for us...you cant put a price on what you love to do...if you can pay the bills, its all good

5: What/who inspires you to write music?

Lehi- The thing that inspires me to write music is the music its self. Music reaches out to everyone, and to know that we have the capability of doing so...theres nothing more inspiring then that.

Mike- Everyday there are new people/situations etc that come about in our lives that inspire us after they make us feel a certain way. So i wouldnt say that there is any one instance or person who inspires us.

6: Have any of you suffered from stage fright? If so, how did you overcome it?

Lehi- Stage fright has never really been a problem for me. There had been times where i get really nervous and start shaking before shows...the best thing is to embrace it...and its good to feel something like that...you lets you know your alive.

Mike- Ya, its not the end of the world if you think you look like a fool. Everyone is weird in their own way, its just some learn to embrace it. I think we've learned to do that pretty well.

7: What has been the most creative gift you all got from a fan?

Mike- Candy is always good but one time when we were in Maine we got a box of candy wrapped in ribbon with a note written on it saying how much they enjoyed our music and how much they like us.... I like hearing that because it makes me feel like we're accomplishing something bigger than just making music. If someone can relate to songs we play then that means more than any material item. Also i like getting hand made bracelets! haha theyre cool to look back on and remember who you got them from.

8: How would you describe your sound for new people listening to the band?

Great pop music that you can press repeat too on your ipod, and just dance

9: What is one thing that fans do not know about you?

We are all jocks and bros. We like playing sports and cracking a couple cold ones. We are the guys on tour that will be throwing a football in the parking lot or lacrosse ball.

10: What are some bands/artists that have been your biggest influence so far?

Lehi- One Republic, Coldplay, legendary type music that reaches the masses not one specific group or demographic.

Mike- Im a pop/punk kid at heart, so a direct influence on the music we play now is Blink. The most influential band for me is The Beatles.

11: Are your parents supportive of you all being in a band?

Lehi- At first they werent really sure, but my brothers have all been in bands and me being the youngest they helped break down the barriers. They realize that this is a passion of mine and that I have a legitament shot of making this a career.

Mike-Im very lucky to have very supportive parents. Like Lehi, they understand its a passion and they are 100% behind me.

12: How did the band start?

Lehi-I knew mark from a high school band he used to play in. We have pretty much been friends since then. We met mike through another band that he was in while BWBB was just starting up and asked him to join. We've pretty much just been a bunch of straight bros ever since

13: What got you interested in playing music?

Lehi- Like I said, have a pretty musical family, with my brothers always being in bands and playing music. So I guess it was meant to be!

14: What was the first album you all bought?

Lehi- hybrid theory-Linkin Park (still rock to it till this day)

Mike- Hanson- Middle of Nowhere..go ahead...judge me

15: What has been your most recent music purchase?

Lehi- Ironically I just picked up the new Linkin Park, and I also picked up Acceptance album Phantoms.

Mike- I just got a Frank Turner record. I try to continually expand my musical horizon and learn from different styles of music.

16: What can we see of the band in the upcoming months?

Mike- We are actually in the studio for the next 2 weeks working on 2 new songs for an EP that should be out in March or April I think. Besides that well be playing a couple shows in our area, with The Bigger Lights and Crash Boom Bang. So everyone stay tuned!!
